Omak – final parade before Leavenworth

The ALFA team will journey to Omak this weekend for the Omak Stampede and their final parade before our own Washington State Autum Leaf Festival in Leavenworth.

It has been a great season starting with Daffodil Festival in Pierce County with 4 parades in one day – Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting. The weather was great and the crowds were very excited.

Spokane and New Westminster followed where the weather was a challenge. Rain kept the crowds at home but both events were televised.

The Portland Starlight Parade was a huge success with and enthusiastic crowd, excellent weather and television coverage.

Marysville we got lucky as what had started as another wet day gave us a rain break just before the parade started. The crowds came out and we had good television coverage as well.

Cashmere’s Founders Day parade turn out was very good with great weather and great support from our neighbors to the east.

The Olympia Capitol Lake Fair parade was immensly successful with great weather and a huge and enthusiastic crowd.

The ALFA team made a great showing at the Seattle Torchlight parade with our “Chicken Dance” crew all dressed in “Seahawk” Dirndls. The crowd was incredible and we had television coverage from KIRO.

The Penticton BC Peach Fair parade officially becomes part of the Northwest Hosting group next year. We didn’t take our float there this year because of insurance issues but the ALFA team participated in a parade with a huge and enthusiastic crowd with television coverage including a brief live interview for their local television station.

In all the ALFA parade team will have participated in fourteen parades across the northwest this year. We have “chicken danced” our way into the hearts of millions from Penticton to Portland and Vancouver, BC to Spokane.

One of the Oldest Festivals in Washington State

Founded in 1964 Leavenworth’s Autumn Leaf Festival celebrates the turning colors of the Autumn Leaves. It is the villages original festival. Together with the City of Leavenworth’s decision to adopt the Bavarian theme, the Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival was instrumental in turning the town into a thriving tourist destination from a dying logging and railroad town. Today the Autumn Leaf Festival Association (ALFA) participates in parades and festival across the northwest as a founding member of the Northwest Hosting Association. ALFA’s participation in those other festivals has resulted in tiny Leavenworth’s festival becoming one of the premier events around the Northwest. For more information on the history and traditions of the Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival visit our About ALFA page.
